The vastly differing behaviors of thermoplastics and thermosets arise from a basic difference in the chemical structure of the thermoset and thermoplastic resins. That significant difference arises because thermoset resins have sites along the polymer chain that can be activated to become reactive. These sites react in such a way that chemical bonds are formed between adjacent polymer molecules.
